Saved To Serve - Saved for Works

Nov 16, 2025    Pastor Ron Simmons

This powerful message challenges us to reconsider the very purpose of our salvation. Drawing from Genesis 2:15, we're reminded that even before sin entered the world, humanity was created with purpose—to tend and keep the garden. We weren't designed for passive consumption but for active service. The sermon confronts what's called 'consumerism Christianity,' where we've fallen into thinking church exists to meet our preferences rather than equip us for kingdom work. Through the profound example of Jesus washing His disciples' feet in John 13, we see that serving isn't beneath us—it's the very heart of Christ-like living. The message powerfully connects Ephesians 2:8-10, showing that while we are saved by grace through faith alone, we are simultaneously saved FOR good works that God prepared beforehand. This isn't about earning salvation through service; it's about understanding that true fulfillment comes when we align with our created purpose. The testimony of shoveling a neighbor's driveway illustrates how serving breaks down spiritual strongholds and opens hearts that seemed closed. We're challenged to recognize that every gift we possess—whether in our careers, talents, or abilities—is meant to be a vehicle for serving others and bringing glory to God. The call is clear: we must move from spectators to participants in God's kingdom work.
